The Transformative Action Award rewards current or concluded Transformative Actions that use the pathways of the Basque Declaration related to three categories:
Ghent (Belgium) won the 2018 Transformative Action Award for their action which seeks to transform the city’s local food system through participative governance models.
“My congratulations go to Ghent for their truly innovative project, which seeks to make their food system local, resilient, sustainable and fair. Their action is a hands-on approach to sustainability, providing great inspiration to other cities to implement this elsewhere.”

The 2018 award ceremony of the Transformative Action Award took place 15 November, 2018, at the European Committee of the Regions.

From a strong field of 40 entrants, the 2018 Transformative Action Award jury rewarded Associazione Amici del Nidiaci with a special mention in appreciation of their project, which uses sustainability to help integrate migrants into their local community.
“Associazione Amici del Nidiaci deserves special recognition for their transformative action which focuses on the integration and inclusion of immigrant families in their local community. I congratulate them for their inspiring action which shows that through diversity, our communities grow stronger and more sustainable.”
