Upcycle Bicycle #zerowasteproject
City/Region : Alkmaar , Netherlands

The 'upcycle bike' rides through the center of Alkmaar. With this electric cargo bike, young people and people with a distance to the labor market collect coffee grounds and other valuable green raw materials from Alkmaar restaurants and companies. The waste of entrepreneurs contributes to Alkmaar's circular goals and the Sustainable development Goals (SDG's). The goal is to grow oyster mushrooms from coffee grounds and to make an Alkmaars snack.

Together with residents, youth, enterpreneurs and local government we achieve the global goals - Global Goals Alkmaar

More than 100 kilos of coffeedrake are collected from catering establishments. More than five vegetable gardens, community gardens and allotments receive the coffee grounds. We need tons to make oyster out of coffee grounds. this requires several bicycles and more couriers. With the faninacial contributions we can scale up, provide people with honest work and make a beautiful local product.

1. SDG12: respknsible consumption Mindset about waste and re-used products for entrepreurs, local goverments and residents

2. SDG13: Climate action and SDG11: sustainable cities and communities It will reduce the amount of trucks in the city

3. SDG8: decent work and ec. growth for the bicycle courier

4. SDG10: reduce inequalities for vulnerable target groups

5.SDG17: Partnerships for the goals. we work together with residents, youth, local governement, entrepreneurs

Challenges and lessons learned

-The bike is modular and can break sometimes, so we need better and more bike,

-The bicycle couriers must be properly supervised, because they are at a distance from the labor market. That is why we work with social organizations that guide the young people
