This transformative action aims to increase bicycle usage in Nicosia, through promoting the benefits of bicycle usage and encouraging citizens to ride bicycles in their daily lives in the city. Through this action we are aiming to changes people perception of bicycle usage in their daily lives. Through this action Nicosia Turkish Municipality, with the cooperation of their partners, has implemented 43 bicycle stations and made 410 bicycles available around Nicosia.

İki Elin Sesi Var, Children’s Symphony Orchestra
City/Region : Eskişehir Tepebaşı municipality , Turkey

“İki Elin Sesi Var, Children’s Symphony Orchestra” was established by Eskişehir Tepebaşı municipality in January 2015, thanks to sponsorships and municipal funding. The orchestra provides a social and cultural space for thousands of children in the municipality and allows them to participate in the arts. It is also hoped that the programme will help reduce drug and crime rates in the municipality.

Through participating in the orchestra, the children gain motivation and self-confidence and improve their social and teamwork skills through music.

Co-creating a sustainable future for France’s second city: The power of community
Organisation : Civocracy and Ville de Lyon , France , France

At the end of 2016, the government of the Ville de Lyon (France) began working with Civocracy (a CivicTech company centred on citizen participation and co-creation) on a longitudinal transformation project in order to create a better, more sustainable society for their community through engaging their citizens.

The city’s public sector workers are consulting citizens on a range of sustainability and public service infrastructure subjects, including the urban planning of green spaces, education structures, improved public transportation, and the regulation of city temperatures during periods of hot weather.

Integrated customer-centric sustainable transport service for the elderly and disabled
City/Region : Gemeente Rotterdam , Netherlands

The aim of this tender is to establish a modified transport service for the elderly and physically disabled citizens of Rotterdam in a way that allows us to use a safe, reliable and pleasant transport service that supports the reason of the transport against a fair price for (SME) transport organisations.

Every year, there are 30.000 unique clients with a combined travel distance of €6 mln. kilometres. This tender is worth €31 million and revolves around the client. The sustainability of the transport service is improved through the use of electric transport. The project aslo seeks to tackle social isolation, as clients from various backgrounds can use the service.

Urumea Riverside; Nearly zero emissions district: branding in sustainability
Organisation : Fomento San Sebastián , Spain

The European REPLICATE project aims to develop and validate a sustainable city business model in the lighthouse cities (pilot) of San Sebastian, Florence and Bristol, to improve the transition process towards a SmartCity in the fields of energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and ICTs/Infrastructures, accelerating the deployment of innovative technologies, increasing the quality of life of the citizens, and influencing the replication process.  In the case of San Sebastián, Urumea Riverside has been selected to be turned into a smart district with nearly zero emissions and is set to become a sustainability brand.

Cork City - “Healthy Heart” of the Cork Region

Cork City Centre is the Healthy Heart of Cork. Its well being is essential to the wider region. In the post economic crash period, the city’s approach to urban revitalisation lagged behind its European counterparts. Recognising this, a comprehensive study was carried out in 2014 to kick-start transformative actions to revitalise the City Centre in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders. The Cork City Centre “Healthy Heart” Strategy has established partnerships and collaboration to drive a wide range of actions to improve the quality of the city centre for all.

"Programme of Integral and communitarian intervention in the neighborhood of San Francisco, Bilbao: New challenges" has the main objective of promoting the intercultural coexistence in the zone with the greatest concentration of immigrants in the city.

Specific objectives include: to promote the integration of people of foreign origin in the neighborhood of San Francisco. To facilitate and to promote the coexistence between neighbours, both native and those of foreign origin, in the district of San Francisco. To strengthen the acquisition of psycho-social skills and knowledge to improve autonomy and integration, promote gender equalit and respect for sexual diversity, reduce discriminatory attitudes, and to strengthen associative life. Systematize and disseminate the evaluation of the program.

Green Factor: Adapting urban public spaces to climate change
City/Region : Durango Local Council , Spain

The Green Factor approach aims to mitigate the harmful effects on the environment and improve people’s health by developing the Faktore Berdea tool, in an attempt to adapt public spaces to climate change. Designing public spaces using carefully selected vegetation and appropriate materials mitigates the flood risk, reduces the heat island effect in urban areas, and improves the quality and liveability of public spaces, thus increasing the positive health effects for the residents, and adapting the city to the risks of climate change.

Geestland does not just work on one of the ten agendas of the Basque Declaration, but instead takes a more holistic approach. Since 2005, this has been a continuous process that can be seen across all the work of the municipality and not just in individual projects.
